Rugaba is a word in Kirundi, the local Burundian language, for God the Provider (Jehovah Jireh).

Rugaba's Children Group Home is an AIDS orphans home headed by Diane, the oldest of 4 siblings. She had just finished High school when her mother, the only parent left, passed away from AIDS in a local hospital. Hungry but filled by God's passion for the least privileged, these children willingly opened their one room house to more orphans.

The Vision
The vision of Rugaba's children is

1) to build a bigger orphanage on the ground of their one bedroom house
2) to reach out to other children in the community who are still waiting for a safe haven, and to integrate them into their orphanage.

Their needs:
love - education - nutrition - medical care - clothing

A story of compassion

Martin never knew his parents. He grew up in a home and, at the age of 16, was thrown out to make room for smaller children. He became homeless. Rugaba's children orphanage opened its doors to him.

Accomplishments

Through fundraising efforts in 2006,
Amahoro International was able to provide

1) An extension of the waterline from the community to the orphans house
2) A new toilet/outhouse as addition to the existing structure
3) Ongoing counseling and supply of daily needs
4) 2 shipments of Bibles
